Why hire a Salt Lake photographer for Park City
Because I am already here. Park City has a handful of resident photographers who mostly shoot weddings, families and real estate, and every January it fills with photographers who fly in, shoot for four days and leave. If you need editorial portraits, a brand campaign, private sessions or a photographer for a visiting client, the practical option is someone thirty-five minutes down Parley's Canyon who knows the town, has the gear, and is not billing you airfare from Los Angeles.
I have photographed in Park City since 2010: festival portraits, ski and outdoor brand work at Deer Valley and Park City Mountain, private portrait and fine art sessions for people who own homes there, and editorial features on Main Street and in the surrounding valleys.
Festival portraits and celebrity work
For years Park City in January meant the Sundance Film Festival, and with it portrait studios run by every major publication, brand lounges up and down Main Street, and a great deal of talent in one small town needing photographs. I shot festival portraits in that environment: fast, in borrowed rooms, with talent who had twelve minutes between interviews. It is a specific skill. You light once, you direct quickly, you do not waste anyone's time, and you deliver overnight.
The festival announced in 2025 that it moves to Boulder, Colorado from 2027, so the January 2026 edition was the last in Park City. The skills do not move. If you are a publication, brand or publicist bringing talent to Utah for any reason, a film shooting here, a launch, a private event, I am available for celebrity portraits with the discretion that work requires. Nothing is posted or shared without written approval of the talent's team. That has always been the rule.
Ski, outdoor and lifestyle brands
Park City is a company town for the ski industry and increasingly for outdoor apparel, and those brands need campaign imagery every season. I photograph athletes and ambassadors as people first: portraits in the lodge, in the lift line at dawn, in the parking lot with the gear thrown down. The mountain is context, not subject. It is a deliberately different look from the action-sports catalogue and it is what brands come to me for. Resort shoots need permission from the resort; I have done it and know who to call. Private sessions in Park City
A number of my clients live in Park City, Deer Valley or Promontory part of the year and book portrait and fine art sessions at home. A house in the mountains with big windows is a very good place to make photographs; the light at 7,000 feet is clean and the rooms are private. I bring the studio to you. Discretion is absolute and the privacy terms are the same as for every session I shoot.
Locations around Park City
Historic Main Street, particularly the upper end early in the morning before it fills. The old mine structures on the mountain, reachable by lift in summer. Guardsman Pass in autumn when the aspens go. The Heber Valley and Midway, ten minutes further on, for open fields and the Swiss-looking barns. The Kamas Valley and the Uinta foothills for empty road and big sky. All within forty minutes of the town. Snow is a given from December to March and changes everything about exposure and colour; in black and white it is simply a white plane, and I like it very much.
Travel and logistics
Park City carries a small travel fee on top of session rates; see the pricing page. I bring everything, including battery-powered lighting for outdoor work. Winter sessions are planned around the road; if Parley's is closed we move the date. For multi-day campaign work I stay in town.
